My first Bikram Yoga class was in the Bikram Yoga School in Amsterdam. I was invited by a good friend and it was as if I discovered a completely new world. The challenge was enormous, because how should I stand on one leg and how should I breathe while hanging upside down?
From student to teacher
After Lydia opened her Bikram Yoga studio in The Hague in 2006, I started practicing daily. In the two years that followed, my career plans faded; I realized that I was already working on what I wanted to do. And even though I am not a natural talent in speaking in front of groups, when I went to the Bikram Yoga Teacher Training in 2008, it felt very self-evident for me.
Teaching Yoga
Thanks to the practice of, and teaching in, yoga, my consciousness is constantly growing. If you practice regularly, you better look at your body, thoughts, habits and emotions, but also at what you eat and how you deal with people. It actually affects everything in your life. Thanks to Bikram Yoga I feel more present in my body, I have more clarity of mind and a better focus.
I am happy that as a teacher I can help everyone who is open to experience the benefits of Bikram Yoga. It is wonderful to see that people really make an effort for that, that they make time and money available for regular practice. Whoever does that, actually always gets more radiant and full of life. It makes me very happy to be part of that change!
Bikram Yoga beginner’s tip
Try listening carefully throughout the lesson. You will be amazed at how challenging that can be.
