I found Bikram Yoga in 2005 when travelling in California. I had done other forms of yoga (Ashtanga, Vinyasa flow, Kundalini) and Raja, a yoga of the mind, which my father had taught me from a young age. But for me Bikram Yoga was both so physical and yet still connected to the mind.
When I came back to The Netherlands I looked to see where I could continue this amazing practice. It was 2005 and there was only one school in The Netherlands so I would travel to Amsterdam to take class 3-4 times per week. I was so excited when it came to The Hague in early 2006.
I attended Bikram’s Teacher Training Program in 2007 and have been teaching ever since. This yoga has changed my life in that it is a way of life that I apply to everything. I have been fortunate enough to travel back to the US three times to participate in the International Yoga Asana Championship to represent The Netherlands. As part of this experience I was able to train with Mary Jarvis in San Francisco and many other dedicated yogis from all over the world. The experience of practicing and teaching this yoga and even demonstrating it through the Asana Championships has taught me so much about myself.
I want to continue to grow and become more aware about who I am and what I do and live a happy and pain free life. I love teaching and witnessing others heal, become more healthy, happier, self-aware and even inspire them to deepening their practice, no matter what level they start with. I truly believe this yoga is a powerful source of preventative medicine.
