The most important thing that Bikram Yoga has brought to me is that I have learned to accept myself and what has been going on in my life.
I remember exactly when I attended my first Bikram Yoga class: October 8, 2006. Around that time, I used to walked past the studio every day in The Hague on my way to work. Also at the reading table in the café where I worked, there were flyers from Bikram Yoga Den Haag. I did running, spinning and aerobics, but was looking for something that would bring me more than just physical health.
From student to teacher
Because I love warmth, I thought that Bikram Yoga would be something for me. Well, right from the start I was sold and after a few lessons I asked studio owner Lydia what I had to do to become a teacher. She said: ‘Doing a lot of yoga’ and so I did that. Three years later I followed the Bikram Yoga Teacher Training and became a teacher.
Change
The Bikram Yoga poses change people in many ways. Some things are clearly visible, such as changes in body shape. Other things may be less visible, but not less important. So I noticed myself that I became much more patient. The most important thing that Bikram Yoga has brought to me is that I have learned to accept myself and what has been going on in my life.
Teaching Yoga
No matter how difficult life is, you can always go back to yoga. I think it’s great to see how Bikram Yoga helps people to become physically and mentally more balanced. For example, I see people who are overweight and people who are underweight in the beginning, but people also change their perception and opinion. The Bikram Yoga benefits really are all-encompassing.
Bikram Yoga beginner’s tip
If you want to be good at yoga, you need to do a lot of yoga. And that is both very simple and very challenging.
