Whether you are healthy or not, Bikram Yoga is a huge challenge.
I started yoga in 2010: I took a few lessons and felt comfortable with it. However, then my teacher went on holiday, so I was looking for a replacement lesson and that is how I found out about Bikram Yoga. My first lesson was in The Hague and I was immediately addicted to the enormous challenge that this yoga offers me.
Discipline and focus
I love the warmth and the sweating, the feeling that I put my body to work, the discipline it requires and the need to focus. And what an admiration for the teachers who were so energetic after a class. I myself was broken … But that changed quickly!
From student to teacher
After a month I started practicing six times a week and after half a year I wanted to become a teacher. In the spring of 2012 I went to the Bikram Yoga Teacher Training in Los Angeles and then Senior Bikram Yoga teacher Mary Jarvis took me in San Francisco for a while under her wings, I gave my first lessons to her and since then I teach for Bikram Yoga Den Haag and Rotterdam.
Teaching Yoga
Bikram Yoga does a lot for me: my breathing has become more powerful, my fitness has improved, I have a faster reaction and much more muscle power. What I like the most about being a teacher is that I can help people to help themselves. Whether you are healthy or not, Bikram Yoga is a huge challenge and by practicing it you improve yourself bit by bit: physically, mentally and spiritually.
Bikram Yoga beginner’s tip
Within two years of my first lesson, I had done the 100 Day Bikram Yoga Challenge twice. Just try and do your best, you can do so much more than you think.
